To Infinity and Beyond! Lego Toy Story Sets January 2010
LEGO and Disney got together before but this is the first time the characters Studio Pixar is featured in the main chain Lego and when the link was announced in 2009 has caused some excitement among the young fans of animation for adults.
Toy Story occupies a pivotal place in both 3D animation history and in the hearts of children of many generations. With Toy Story 3 slated for release in the film world in July 2010, these sets are necessarily very productive. The first wave of Toy Story Games LEGO was released in January 2010 and are a good mix of large and small ensembles at different price ranges. Figurines Lego Pixar characters are one major drawcards with this range and they did not disappoint.
Probably the best value to save money, and most difficult to locate on store shelves is the Buzz and Woody to the rescue. This series, numbered 7590 and priced at $ 19.99, is the only set that comes at a time with Woody and Buzz. The figures are very detailed and precise, instantly recognizable and endearing in their format LEGO. This set also comes with the favorite RC enthusiasts who, in the film is a short drive from the remote. In this set RC is no remote control, but to remove the friction to run on the floor.
The largest group, 502 pieces is Woody's Roundup, which reconstructs the entire issue and features Woody Woody, the prospector (otherwise known as Stinky Pete), Jessie and Bullseye the horse. The series numbered 7594 and priced at $ 49.99, is a collection of fun and functions of the sheriff's office, a prison and a gold mine cave with lots of accessories such as a safe currency, and explosives. It's great to have Woody, Jessie and Bullseye together and buildings are places for them to gather or to exchange fire with Stinky Pete.
The smallest set of this first wave is Army Men patrol retail $ 10.99. It includes men of the army green figure prominently in the first movie Toy Story. The cool thing about this set is the color. Except for the wheels of the jeep, everything is green. The set comes with four figures, three jumpers and a nurse (with a beautiful distinctive white cross on his helmet). The figures come with different accessories and plates base on their feet that attach nicely to a base plate of Lego. The jeep is very cute and has a stretcher for these army men injured in the performance of duty.
The Next highest decoration, to 257 parts is Star Command Buzz Spaceship. Featuring Buzz minifigs and evil, but paternal (I Am Your Father) Zurg, this set weighs in at $ 29.95. The spaceship is very swooshable and the back opens to reveal a little buggy Moon Rush to zoom around on perfect for planetary exploration. The cockpit opens and Buzz fits perfectly inside, even with its wings. This is a very playable and even age is recommended for 7 years and I want to say with certainty that dexterity most young people can play with it easily.
The last two rounds in this first wave of LEGO Toy Story are the two construction sites-A-Sets. This essentially Building, poseable figures of both Buzz and Zorg (sold separately). Each figure is about 7 inches tall, is robust for the game hinged and comes with a small Minifigure alien (the little green men). They are much more detailed than the regular figures (such as a helmet can Buzz close the Build a figure Buzz but not on the mini) but may not be played in vehicles or play sets, having more in common with the figures Bionicle size. However, when the rest of the line is released these figures will make a great play or deployment figures.
These sets are the first complete wave of Lego Toy Story in 2010, but there is more to come. In the process leading up to Toy Story 3 release in cinemas another wave will come out in some months. With names like Western Train Chase and Pizza Planet truck rescue LEGO theme has much more life left in it yet and hopefully the success will pave the Way more than Pixar thematic Lego sets.
