I need to build an RC car temporarily, the setup / take-down could be 1.5 hours each.?
I day event of racing RC monster trucks. The surface is concrete / paved. My main question is what to use for the edges runway. Some ideas are just planks of wood, which would be relatively easy to implement. But they could be rough on the trucks. Another idea Summer cardboard boxes (perhaps shoeboxes?) with weights in them. But those are fairly short and could take many of them for make a track. Other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Ideas for obstacles in the runway would be nice too, for jumps / crests / whatever.
How about taking an empty gallon milk jugs, rinse well, dry them and fill them with about 75% of full of sand. The weight of the sand to keep the jars in place and prevent trucks from leaving the arena. Leaving an air pocket near the top (the carnet of 25%), the pot milk can "squish" to absorb some impact, so the damage to the trucks should be reduced. For the pots a little more sustainable, you can try to wrap them with a few pieces of tape (the kind with fiber glass). Sooner or later you'll have milk bottles burst, but I'm sure it would be worthwhile. Just bring along a broom to sweep the sand spilled.
